About

A desktop that breathes, not just sits.

LiveLayer is a free, open-source live wallpaper and date widget app for Windows. We believe your desktop should feel alive — without bloatware, without tracking, and without a store.

Why we built LiveLayer

Most wallpaper engines are heavyweight programs that need Steam, a store, and an account, and they run as slow background processes. We wanted a live wallpaper app that was the opposite: tiny, fast, private, and free. So we built one with Tauri.

The technology

LiveLayer is built with Tauri and React, so the installer is about 5 MB and the app uses only about 200 MB of RAM while playing video wallpapers. It supports MP4, WEBM, AVI, MOV, MKV, GIF, JPG, PNG, WEBP, TIFF, and TGA — your wallpapers, your formats.

Open source by conviction

LiveLayer is open source under the AGPL-3.0 license. Anyone can read the code, verify the privacy promises, build the app themselves, or contribute. Open source is not a marketing line for us — it is the whole point.
